Don't have the Turkey!

Having a child with Autism has been one of the many twists in my life that was unexpected and not part of the plan. Boy am I glad that my life isn't as boring as I once hoped it would be!

He teaches me new things every single day, most children do, but the deeper things that come with autism still inspire me in the most unusual of ways.

For example, food. Max has a very restricted diet. By all accounts we are very lucky with the variety of foods that he does consume but still, he has set dinners for set days and there is very little deviation from the weekly plan.

We recently had the conversation about Christmas day and what he would like for his Christmas day dinner. For Max, the thought of eating a cooked meal at lunchtime is beyond what his mind can handle, so he will have his usual sandwich and raisins at midday whilst we are tucking into our cooked Christmas Lunch. For his dinner, he has chosen a pepperoni pizza. Until about a week ago, this gave me a sad feeling that he won't enjoy the traditional Christmas dinner. Then something changed...

Someone asked me what Max eats on Christmas day and I told them he was having a pizza. They responded saying that they wished they could have pizza on Christmas day. It was not what I was expecting at all! I was thinking that they would be empathetic and think that it was odd, but instead they were JEALOUS of his Christmas Day Dough Fest!

It was one of those moments in life where your mind literally does a 180 and you end up feeling the complete opposite of how you did 5 seconds ago. Max was the one winning here and we are missing out! Who said we NEED to eat Turkey on Christmas day? Why do we follow a tradition, even if we don't like it! It is absolutely bonkers that thousands of people will reluctantly eat Turkey and Sprouts and be unhappy during the entire process this Christmas.

If I am not too late, let my words encourage you to break the habit. Don't have Turkey this Christmas! Have whatever the heck you want. People in Japan have KFC for Christmas day Dinner (that is one that my husband doesn't mind joining in with let me tell you!) Just be happy. Let that be your new Tradition!

So a bit later than planned but that's my Tip Tuesday for you all
