I have a fairly big birthday coming up soon, well when I say soon, I mean in four years. I love to plan and organise things so I am very excited to have something to plan and organise. I will probably enjoy this as much as the main event!
Nevertheless, I have learnt over the years that these things creep up on us slowly to start with and then all of a sudden there are here and you’ve done nothing! Consequently…I am planning ahead, but where to start?
Obviously with a new notebook and stationery dedicated to organising this momentous occasion, but that’s not what I meant! When I first thought about having a party I had a lot of ideas and thoughts all running around in my head, that I knew I would forget if I didn’t get them down on paper.
So while I contemplate on different themes for my party here are my suggestions for planning your own special event, these are based on my party planning but you can use them for any event and you can make them as detailed or as brief as you need them.
Brain declutter:
Here is where I have started to write down all the ideas I have, just to get them out of my head ready to organise later. I can keep adding to this as and when I need to before I finalise plans nearer the time, as I find that I randomly think of something I need to do or require for the party.
Main details:
So, things like date, time, theme and budget, maximum number of guests.
Budget:
Speaks for itself but this is a good way to set a limit on your spending and allocate your funds to the right places so that you don’t go over budget.
Following this I am going to do a task list with sub-tasks, so for example:
To do:
Write guest list
Write a food list
Book venue
Decide on entertainment
Book entertainment
Bribe a friend to help with the task!
To buy:
Invitations
Food
Decorations
Drink
Cake
New outfit, shoes, handbag?!
Guest List:
Name
RSVP
Present brought
Thank you letter sent
Invitations:
Buy invitations
Write invitations
Send invitations
Preferably I will write these down in chronological order of when they need to be done by, from two months before the day right up to the time of the party, because I’m just that organised!
Who knows, maybe within the next four years I might need to organise some other event, so at least the foundations of my planning are already mapped out for me.
